2009 CBC sets records

The 2009 Balcones Christmas Bird Count took place on Monday, December 14th, 2009. 38 hardy souls participated and tallied 111 species on the day of the count. That blasts out of the water our previous high count of 106 species set in 1998. Great job everyone!

Thanks to all of you who participated in the count - both out in the field and watching your feeders. We couldn't have done it without you.

We'll post the final statistics here once they are available.

For those of you who are interested, Chuck Sexton has put together a spreadsheet of the CBC results from all previous years for which we have records. It shows all of the species seen as well as the high count for each one. You can download a copy here, or stop by the refuge and ask for a copy from Chuck - he has some already printed out.
